Jermaine Anderson scored a late winner as Woking made a victorious start under new manager Neal Ardley with a 2-1 triumph over Altrincham in the Vanarama National League.

Frank Vincent hit the post early on for the hosts at the Laithwaite Community Stadium but Altrincham’s Matty Kosylo, Alex Newby and George Wilson all tested home goalkeeper Will Jaaskelainen.

Inih Effiong opened the scoring for Woking just before the hour after being fed by Harry Beautyman but Regan Linney teed up Newby for a 71st-minute equaliser.

Anderson put the Cards back ahead eight minutes from time when he scrambled in from a corner and Ardley’s side survived a barrage of late pressure to secure the points.
