Goals from Dilan Markanday and Will Grigg gave Chesterfield a well-deserved 2-0 win against bottom of the table Carlisle.

Markanday gave the visitors the lead midway through the first half and Grigg sealed the points with a second-half strike.

It was the hosts who had the first chance of the game as Max Thompson saved well from a left-footed Dominic Sadi shot.

Chesterfield then took the lead in the 25th minute after a lovely flick from Grigg gave the ball to Markanday, who steered a left-footed shot past Gabe Breeze in the Carlisle goal.

The Spireites went into half-time with a well-deserved lead, but after the break the Cumbrians started to create chances, with substitute Georgie Kelly going close as he headed a Jon Mellish cross over the bar.

The Carlisle number nine had another chance to equalise but he fired a Sadi cut-back over the bar from close range.

After a series of wasted Carlisle chances, Grigg doubled the Spireites’ lead in the 75th minute as he fired home after some excellent work from Armando Dobra and that sealed the three points for the visitors.
